Introduction to Lighting Design

This course introduces the basic technical and creative concepts in lighting of interior spaces, with emphasis on the architectural aspects of lighting design in residential spaces. Human factors, color, materials, and the behavior of light are discussed.This course examines the processes used in lighting design including selection of lamp types, fixture types and layered lighting solutions. The class will work on a residential lighting design project to use and apply the information provided throughout the course lectures. Students will develop an understanding of the relationship of light to the various elements of the built environment as well as learning simple lighting rules of thumb and light fixture trends.
