EXTREME CASHMERE
Extreme Cashmere's new SoHo store on Mercer Street was conceived as an intimate, domestic environment rather than a conventional retail space, more like a library or salon than shop. With minimal merchandise on display and a richly curated interior palette inspired by 1970s design, the lighting was asked to do something precise yet understated: create warmth, legibility, and a sense of quiet invitation within a space entirely devoid of daylight.
Our approach focused on light as atmosphere rather than spotlight. In response to the lack of natural light, illumination was concentrated on vertical surfaces to give the space depth and rhythm, allowing the vivid green carpeting, textured walls, and curated objects to read softly and evenly. Wallwashing and layered ambient light establish a calm visual field, while decorative luminaires introduce moments of levity and suspension, enhancing the sensation of floating elements and spatial lightness within the long, linear plan.
