WATSON READING ROOM AND LIBRARY
Nestled inside of New York's largest and most iconic museum, The MET, the Watson Reading Room and Library is home to one of the world's most comprehensive collection of works. In collaboration with Young & Ayata Architects, our team carefully assessed the problems of the existing space and designed a bold upgrade with comfort and care in mind.
The full ceiling-spanning diffuse light panel system was integral to bringing life back to the Nolen Study Room. The room's most intriguing detail is the custom CNC milled wood panels sourced from the existing library shelves. The even wash of light brings out depth and character from each individual panel and creates a comfortable reading and browsing experience.
The addition of lockers, new shelving, and an upgraded reception area are all complimented by clever lighting details and sleek fixtures that support the new library experience. This new design brings clarity, warmth, and new life to the Watson Library while paying homage to the original concept derived nearly 60 years ago.
